Series: Hearts in Darkness Duet #2
Release Date: January 12, 2016

Two hearts in the darkness…

Makenna James and Caden Grayson have been inseparable since the day they were trapped in a pitch-black elevator and found acceptance and love in the arms of a stranger. Makenna hopes that night put them on the path to forever—which can’t happen until she introduces her tattooed, pierced, and scarred boyfriend to her father and three over-protective brothers.

Must fight for love in the light…

Haunted by a childhood tragedy and the loss of his family, Caden never thought he’d find the love he shares with Makenna. But the deeper he falls, the more he fears the devastation sure to come if he ever lost her, too. When meeting her family doesn’t go smoothly, Caden questions whether Makenna deserves someone better, stronger, and just more…normal. Maybe they’re too different—and he’s far too damaged—after all…

A truly satisfying and worthy sequel!
Caden and Makenna forever!

Love in the Light is a sequel that I’ve been waiting a long time to read. I read Hearts in Darkness in April 2011, and I immediately fell in love with Caden Grayson and Makenna James. I couldn’t wait to finally get more on this beautiful couple and find out what happened after that fateful night. Fans wanted more, and boy, oh boy, did Laura Kaye deliver in giving us all a shining sequel to enjoy to our hearts content!

Love in the Light begins 2 months after Caden and Makenna got trapped in that darn elevator. They’ve been getting to know each other more and seem very happy together. Makenna takes Caden home with her during the holidays to meet her father and brothers, and things get a little overwhelming for Caden.

Poor Caden! In Hearts in Darkness we discovered that this sweet, tattooed, and scarred man lives with an anxiety disorder everyday. In Love in the Light, how he deals with anxiety and panic attacks is pushed to the limit. If you loved Caden before, then you will fall for him harder this time around. Both Caden and Makenna go through so much, but Caden has to finally make peace with the one thing holding him back from happiness forever after.

Once again Laura Kaye draws out deep emotions in her storytelling. If you or a loved one live with anxiety disorder, then you will understand the severity of Caden’s pain. Laura Kaye gets these feelings right in the story, and it all feels raw and real. Also, Caden is a paramedic, and she gives nod to emergency first responders in a positive light. I love that! The undeniable chemistry between Caden and Makenna continue to steam up the pages, too. There are plenty of heart-stopping scenes filled with warmth and tender love that you will need tissues on hand.

Love in the Light is a truly satisfying and worthy sequel! I will read this over and over again like I did with Hearts in Darkness. Thank you, Laura Kaye, for giving us MORE!

~*~ Review Repost ~*~

To celebrate the release of Love in the Light I wanted to repost my review of Hearts in Darkness that I wrote back in 2011 with my newer thoughts regarding the audiobook.

When I met Laura Kaye back in 2014, she signed my paperback copy of Hearts in Darkness with the original cover.

For being a short story, Laura Kaye does not disappoint in creating a sweet and sexy romance between two unlikely strangers thrown into a difficult situation. I loved learning about Makenna and Caden while they were getting to know one another. I loved how they didn't get a good look at one another before the lights went out, and they had to rely on their other senses. As other reviews said, the tension just keeps building and building! It only took me a few hours to finish the story, since I could not put it down. I just really needed to know what happened to these two people. If you're a fan of romance and want something quick to read, then get Hearts in Darkness!
Audiobook review
It was my first time listening to anything narrated by Erin Jones, and she made me smile at many of my favorite scenes.  For instance, the part in the elevator when Makenna asks Caden to choose which snack he wants, “Granola bar or trail mix, granola bar or trail mix” was done in a sing-song voice that I thought was cute and made me giggle. This story is only a little over 3 hours long and, while I’ve re-read this novella many, many times over the years, it was refreshing to listen to the audiobook.
