2015 Year End Reflection and Favorites List #MyBookSnack

As I reflect back on what I read in 2015, I must say that I had a wonderful year!
I read 82 books, which included 34 audiobooks! That is the most audiobooks I've read in a year thus far. While I read more sports romances, romantic comedies and adult contemporaries, I branched out of reading just only romance and read some young adult, science fiction fantasy, non-fiction, an autobiography, a memoir, and even a few dark reads.

I also didn't go to a lot of book events this year, but the few that I went to I was able to meet some of my favorite authors. I enjoyed meeting Jennifer Ryan, Jenny Han, and T.J. Kline. I got to spend time and hang out with Marina Adair at one author event. One of my highlights of the year was meeting Andy Weir at a speaking engagement and signing. He's a pretty funny guy! I didn't mention every author I met, but it has definitely been a memorable year!

I also wanted to thank anyone who has visited My Book Snack this year. You are the BEST!

Title: Caught by You
Author: Jennifer Bernard
Series: Love Between the Bases #2
Release Date: December 29, 2015
Publisher: Avon Impulse

Love comes out of left field in the second novel in USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Bernard's sexy baseball-themed series...

Months of alternately flirting and bickering with Kilby Catfish catcher Mike Solo just turned into the hottest kiss of Donna MacIntyre's life—and that's a major league complication. Any hint of scandal could keep her from getting her son back from her well-connected ex. Then Mike comes up with a game-changing idea: a marriage proposal that could help win her case—even as it jeopardizes her heart.

Mike hasn't been able to get the gorgeous, gutsy redhead out of his fantasies. The least he can do is fix the mess he helped create. Yet their engagement is quickly becoming about a lot more than doing the right thing. Because after swearing he'd never risk love again, Mike has found a passion that puts all his emotions in play, and a woman he'll go to bat for again and again.

Loved, loved, loved Mike and Donna’s story!

After reading All of Me, I knew right away that I wanted to read Caught by You. Why? In book one there was some serious spark between Mike and Donna, and I was excited to learn that book 2 of the Love Between the Bases series was going to be their story!

In the first book we didn’t get to know much about Mike and Donna, but they did exchange plenty of playful banter. I could just feel that the chemistry between these two would be intense if they ever got together. Mike Solo is the Kilby Catfish catcher who adheres to a self-imposed vow of celibacy during the baseball season. Can he resist the temptation of the sassy redhead that is Donna MacIntyre? I love that Jennifer Bernard teases us a little in chapter 1. The tension is deliciously sweet and leaves you immediately wanting to read more.

Mike and Donna both have things going on in their lives that are tough road bumps to overcome; however these two will make you root for them from the start. Primarily, Mike really wants to help Donna in her fight for custody of her son, so he comes up with a pretty wild idea. Who doesn’t love a hero with such good intentions? When you find out what he’s done in his past, you’ll be smitten with Mike even more!

I just adore how Jennifer Bernard weaves a story. I liked Caleb and Sadie from the first book, and we get nice updates on them, but I think I loved Mike and Donna’s story a little more! Plus, I was so curious to see how things would go with Mike’s vow of celibacy possibly getting in the way. He takes the vow pretty seriously, and there are unexpected twists! Filled with on-field action, heart, steam, and even surprising, funny scenes, Caught by You will make you laugh and cry in a very good way.

He ran a hand through the rough curls at the back of his head. “I have to confess something.” His Catholic-boy conscience had been tugging at him this whole time. “Only a couple of those library books are mine. Mostly they’re my neighbor’s. He’s house-bound, so I pick up books for him.”

Amusement lit up her little heart-shaped face. “Your confession is that you don’t read big piles of books, and that you go to the library for your neighbor? I’m crushed. I was thinking there was a secret genius hidden inside that ripped body.”

“Maybe I was trying to impress you. We’ve been dancing around each other all season. Don’t you want to see if there’s anything to this chemistry?”

Her eyes widened. “Here? Are you trying to add public indecency to all those fines?”

“Just a kiss. One kiss. There’s nothing indecent about a kiss.”

She considered that for a long moment, while a pleasant tension rose between them. Finally she seemed to make up her mind. She took a step forward, brushing against him.

“Nothing indecent, Priest? I’ve got news for you.”

“What’s that?”

“There is if you do it right.” And she lifted her mouth to his.

Jennifer Bernard is a graduate of Harvard and a former news promo producer. The child of academics, she confounded her family by preferring romance novels to … well, any other books. She left big city life for true love in Alaska, where she now lives with her husband and stepdaughters. She’s no stranger to book success, as she also writes erotic novellas under a naughty secret name not to be mentioned at family gatherings.

I'll Be Home for Christmas by Lori Wilde #Audiobook Review

Title: I'll Be Home for Christmas

This is my honest review.
Rating: 4 Stars ~ Loved

There’s something about being in Twilight, Texas during the holidays!

Lori Wilde has a knack for writing delightful small town romances. A year ago I read my very first Twilight, Texas novel, which was Christmas at Twilight. I absolutely adored that book, and I knew that I wanted to be swept back to this place again this year. I’ll Be Home for Christmas turned out to be exactly what I wanted in a holiday read.

Wilde’s Twilight, Texas series is written in a way that you can jump right in anywhere and feel welcomed and right at home. There’s something special about being in Twilight, Texas during the holidays. The town really loves to celebrate this holiday in spectacular fashion.

The way Gabi Preston ends up in Twilight, TX is very much like what happens in that movie The Holiday. Gabi met Joe’s sister online, and the two temporarily swap homes. The reason Gabi chooses to getaway to Joe’s hometown is heartbreaking. Once she’s in Twilight, she meets Joe and immediately gets pulled into whatever the town has going on during the holidays. A couple of specially placed mistletoe and love definitely fills the air. Gabi and Joe’s story warmed my heart so much. Joe is such a stand-up kind of guy and endearingly charming! He’s a Christmas tree farmer with a huge heart and falls hard for the city girl. If you’re looking for a fun holiday small town romance, I don’t think you can go wrong with I’ll Be Home for Christmas to keep you in a festive mood. The holiday quotes at the start of each chapter are like chocolate sprinkles on top of the whipped cream of your mug of hot cocoa…little perfect touches that make the holiday sweet.

Audiobook Review
It was my first time listening to C.J. Critt. It took me a while to get used to her voice for Joe. I think I would rather have preferred a deeper voice for him, but overall I thought her narration of I’ll Be Home for Christmas was great and made for a festive experience. Critt has recorded so many books that I wouldn’t hesitate to try another narration of hers again.
