Homefront by Jessica Scott ~ Guest Post Interview and ARC Review

I love a good romance with a military hero, and Jessica Scott writes some really good ones! I adore her Coming Home series, and now the first book of her new Homefront series is available. It is my pleasure to have Author Jessica Scott stop by answering a few questions.

Welcome to My Book Snack, Jessica!

Homefront is the first book in a new series.  What sets this series apart from the Coming Home series?

Honestly? There's not much different between the two. I'm branching into indie publishing and I wanted to make sure that I had the entire series under my editorial direction. So I've branded them with different covers and I'm working with a different editor but the overall thrust of the stories will be very similar.

What did you like about writing a book featuring a second-chance romance?

I honestly love a good second chance romance – one where the hero and the heroine have really screwed up. I love the idea of loving someone despite their past sins, you know? I think it's important that we don't dodge or deny that people really can screw up and can still find and be worthy of love.

In Homefront Mel and Gale have a teenage daughter, and there’s a bit of teen angst that goes on. I loved how you handled the issues between the adults and teens in this story. How was it for you writing about teen characters? Is there a favorite moment that you have between the characters of Mel, Gale, Jamie and/or Alex?

I'm forecasting what life is going to be like in my house in about 10 years, lol. Seriously, though, I hope not. My favorite scene is when Gale is taking Alex home and he tells him "son you say biology and I start needing anti-psychotic medication." I don't know why but that cracks me up every time.

What can your fans expect next from you?

After the War is up next in May and after that Face the Fire. Beyond that, I'm not sure what the rest of the year hold but stay tuned to the blog, facebook and twitter to find out!

Thank you so much, Jessica! Congratulations on the release of Homefront!

Thanks so much for having me Grace!

She's never stopped loving him...

Melanie never stopped worrying about Gale each time he headed off to war. But he's never been there when she needed him and she's had fifteen years to steel her heart against him.

This is my honest review
Rating: 4.5 Stars - Loved

Jessica Scott always gets me with her military hero romances, and reading Homefront did not disappoint!

Gale Sorren has waited years to come home. His wife divorced him when their daughter was a baby, but he’s always wanted to get the chance to fix his broken family…to get a second chance. He was never expecting the amount of tension he would walk into when he finally connects with his family again.

Parts of this story absolutely broke my heart! Melanie has spent years making a life for her and her daughter, Jamie. Things aren’t perfect, and Jamie is dealing with some major issues. Combine that with teenage hormones, and, well, Mel desperately could use Gale’s help in that department, but could she trust him? He’s never been there for them before.

I love second-chance romances. While reading Homefront, I wanted Melanie and Gale to get their well-deserved second chance right from the beginning. Jessica Scott tackles some pretty serious issues in this story. She makes the parenting problems Mel and Gale deal with seem so realistic and raw, and I liked how she handled these situations. I don’t think one even has to be a parent to relate to these things. I think anyone who has ever regretted something in the past and learns from mistakes moving forward will understand the heart of this story. Thank you, Ms. Scott, for another captivating read!
