It's Christmas in Twilight, Texas. The Cookie Club is baking, the town is decorated, and Delta Force Operator "Hutch" Hutchinson has finally, reluctantly, returned home . . .

. . . only to get pepper sprayed by the delicious- looking stranger who's taken over his house. She says her name is Jane, and she immediately sets down ground rules. Top priority: no touching. For Hutch that isn't easy—he was wounded in action, but one part is still working very well.

Then Hutch learns the truth. Jane harbors a frightening secret—she's really Meredith Sommers, on the run from a dangerous ex-husband and desperately in need of the safety Hutch can provide. In that moment, he vows he'd do anything in his power to protect her. And as Christmas approaches, they discover that their love can conquer the past and overcome any obstacle—but what price will they pay?

Made my heart race all the way to the end!

I picked up Christmas at Twilight on a whim to satisfy my craving for a holiday read. I think the cover is adorable, and I’m also a sucker for reads where the hero is ex-military. WOW!!! New-to-me author Lori Wilde can surely write an engaging storyline filled with serious issues that twist your heart. I’m so glad I took a chance on this one.

The underlying tone of this story is very sad. I say that, because much of the subject matter center around how one deals with certain psychological disorders and how it affects family and friends. Yes, the emotions fly high and feelings get wrung tight. I appreciate that Ms. Wilde tells this story in a real and raw way while also providing a satisfying romance. The attraction and chemistry between Hutch and Meredith is pretty obvious right from the beginning, but they have to deal with so many obstacles. You know that feeling of wishing for a Christmas miracle to happen? I got all that and more. Ms. Wilde made my heart race all the way to the end of this story. I was left feeling hopeful for anyone in similar situations.

This is my first time reading a Twilight, Texas novel. What a charming town!  In Christmas at Twilight, I got a brief lowdown of what’s been happening with the previous couples without it going into too much of their individual stories. I loved the ladies in The Cookie Club, the kismet cookies, and being introduced to the Sweetheart Legend. I had so much fun being transported to this town briefly that I now want to read the other books in this series.
